Avo-Oat After-Sun Face and Body Mask

Exposure to the sun, wind, salt, and sand often creates dry, flaky skin,

which can be remedied with this Avo-Oat After-Sun Face and Body

Mask. Nutrient-rich emollient avocados work to heal sun-damaged and

weather-worn skin and help reduce the appearance of age spots. Keep

your skin looking beautiful after a day in the sunshine with this soothing,

replenishing all-over body mask that is packed with therapeutic

ingredients to gently exfoliate while helping to moisturize, repair, and

condition sun-kissed skin.

YIELDS: 1 full body treatment

Flesh of 2 ripe avocados

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 cup cooked oatmeal

2 cups fine granulated sugar

What you will need: medium-size mixing bowl, large fork, measuring

cups and spoons, tight-sealing container

1. To Make: Mash the flesh of the avocados with a large fork. Stir in the

lemon juice and olive oil. Stir in the oatmeal. Next, add the sugar and mix

into an even paste. The texture should be easily spreadable and not too

chunky. Add more olive oil if it’s too thick or more sugar if it’s too thin, 1

teaspoon at a time to find the perfect consistency.

2. To Store: Store in tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3

days. Reduce the airspace in the storage container to help prevent oxidation.

3. To Use: This recipe is appropriate for sun-kissed, not sunburned, skin. If

you have a sunburn, choose another recipe from this chapter such as the

Soothe-My-Sunburn Bath. Apply a thick layer to clean damp skin. Start

with the body and finish with the face, avoiding eye area. Leave on 10–30

minutes. You can wrap yourself in plastic wrap, a clean sheet, and/or sit on

a towel or lay in the tub. To remove, moisten your skin and massage the

mask off in small circular motions, starting with the legs and arms, making

your way up to the torso, ending at your heart.
